Do you want to?

“The only people that can change the world are people who want to. And not everybody does.” Hugh Macleod I recently had a conversation with someone about inspiration, and where to find it. We talked about how each person responds and reacts differently, so we each need to find that which resonates for us. I was then asked, what inspires me. I thought about what can deeply move me- and have an ongoing, profound impact on my mood/energy and support my belief that each one of us has the capacity to make a difference. I knew the answer right away. It is people like Kirk Johnson. Have you heard of him?  I hope you have! I have been thinking about his efforts to help resettle Iraqis that helped support the US, who are now in tremendous danger in Iraq.  His belief that this isn’t right, and it isn’t ok, and his efforts to change what currently IS, to what should be, is beyond inspiring.  He didn’t have a lot of money, or a big team of people working with him.  He had himself and his belief that he could make a difference…and he has made a massive difference to over 400 Iraqis that he has already helped resettle in the US.  But he’s not done, because there are thousands more that he is working tirelessly to save. It is people like Kirk that help remind me that it does matter, and while we are here, each one of us has the ability to make a massive impact on this world. We don’t have to have all the answers. We don’t have to have a detailed plan. We don’t need infinite funds or a large team of experts. Change happens when we believe it matters, when we know something could be better and that trust that we have the ability, energy and heart to make it happen. To Kirk, and all of the other people that wake up every day and change the world, thank you. Will you change the world? If you believe you can, you will. (Unless you already have…!) ~
