Free from Yesterday and Tomorrow.

Free from Yesterday and Tomorrow.

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.”

Eckhart Tolle

For so many, life is grounded by what happened yesterday, or what might happen tomorrow... not about today and what is happening now. Tolle’s book, The Power of Now, is one of the most powerful reminders that there is no other way to live life except by focusing on what is happening now. It cannot be lived through what shouldn’t have happened in the past, or what could possibly happen in the future …it can only be lived in each moment, of each day.

Simultaneously this can be a terrifying and freeing mindset.
Who would we be, if we weren’t able to cling to the labels that we have given ourselves from our past?
What would it mean if we weren’t able to put all our hope in the fact that the future will somehow, miraculously, be so much better than today?
Would you do anything differently if you believed that your happiness (or lack thereof) was all completely within your control?

So many are waiting…

Waiting to be free of the past…

Waiting for happiness to greet them in the future…

This is something that continues to come up as people struggle with personal and professional growth. There is an ongoing battle between the past and the future, and the impact that it has on the present. What if the present was all there was to focus on?

Try on the idea that if you want to achieve a state (whatever it is…from being a more supportive supervisor, becoming a more effecitve communicator, to being a more forgiving or peaceful person, or a more patient parent), you can be that NOW…through being fully present in each moment. You’re not waiting for it to happen, you’re living it, now, through each choice you make, each action to you take, each word you speak…

It’s not magic, it’s being present in the Now. And, it’s the greatest gift you can give yourself.

Try it.
