What are you thinking about?

What are you thinking about?

All that we are is a result of what we have thought.
The mind is everything.
What we think, we become.

Buddha

What is it that you are thinking of?

Our days, and our lives, tend to be exactly what we think they will be.
Each one of us wakes up, every day, with an expectation about what the day will bring us (good and/or bad).
Two people could go through the same exact day, and at the end, one person would tell you how fabulous the day was, and share all of the amazing things that happened in her day that made it so.
The other person would go through the same day, and at the end, lament how awful life is, and detail all of the misfortune, frustration and inconvenience she encountered in her day.
What makes this so?

Quite simply, we all seek evidence that supports our expectations and our beliefs about who we are, what kind of day we will have, and ultimately what kind of life we will have.

Where is your focus?
Do you expect, seek out and focus on what is right about your days, or what is wrong?
Here are some questions to help you think about your angle/position….

  • Do you spend your time thinking about the joys in your life, or the frustrations?
  • Do you thank and acknowledge the positive people you encounter, or just zero in on negativity?
  • Do you focus on what is right about your job, or what is missing?
  • Do you celebrate the love in your life, or highlight what you feel you don’t have (and are entitled to?)
  • Do you shine a spotlight on your strengths, your talents and your unique gifts, or are you fixated on an area of perceived inadequacy?

Our lives are going to be exactly what we create them to be. No more, no less.

You can decide how you want to live, what you want to spend your energy on, and what you want to notice and celebrate about your life. Isn’t your time better spent on what IS there, instead of what IS NOT?

The people who are celebrating each day of life are not living in a different world, as they have the same encounters with frustration, disappointment, failure and fear.
They feel all of those things, as all people do.
The difference might just be this…

They shine the spotlight more on the positive parts of their life (using a brighter bulb!),
so they see those parts of life more clearly.

Where are you shining your spotlight?
(And, is your bulb bright enough?)
